Blacksmith Software Inc. raises $45M in Series B
Blacksmith Software Inc., a provider of cloud-based continuous integration services, has secured $45 million in a Series B funding round led by Peak XV Partners. Significant backing also came from existing investors Y Combinator and GV. The funding elevates Blacksmith's valuation to $550 million. The capital injection aims to enhance its infrastructure as demand rises for systems that accommodate the growing volume of code being produced by agentic artificial intelligence tools like Claude Code and Codex.
Blacksmith's platform integrates automatically with AI-generated code outputs, handling functions such as feature building, bug fixing, and, crucially, the validation and integration of code submissions. This functionality is critical as developers increasingly adopt AI tools that can produce large quantities of code requiring thorough validation. "Writing code has gotten dramatically easier. Validating it hasn’t," stated Aditya "JP" Jayaprakash, Blacksmith’s co-founder and CEO. The funding will primarily address increasing the company's compute infrastructure, aiming to expand its processing capacity significantly in upcoming months.
The strategic move to enhance its infrastructure comes as Blacksmith sees rapid growth in usage, with its weekly job run rate increasing between 5% and 10% since the year's start. The company's service is currently employed by over 6,000 clients, a substantial rise from approximately 800 as noted earlier in the year. Among its clients are notable companies such as Supabase Inc., Clerk Inc., Ashby Inc., and Mercury Systems Inc.
In the broader market context, Blacksmith's initiative underscores the mounting challenge faced by the software industry to efficiently manage and validate code produced by AI tools. As AI adoption proliferates, the need for robust continuous integration platforms rises, posing challenges and opportunities for other sector players. Competing firms may need to enhance their capabilities to match Blacksmith's scalability and efficiency in integrating AI-driven code production.
Looking ahead, the market will closely watch how Blacksmith's enhanced infrastructure meets increasing demands. Ensuring that the platform can handle a growing volume of simultaneous integrations will be key to maintaining its competitive edge. Continued advancements in AI code production tools will likely sustain the demand for comprehensive validation and integration solutions that Blacksmith aims to provide.
