Orlando City acquires Houston Dynamo

Orlando City SC has secured the services of right-back Griffin Dorsey from Houston Dynamo FC, as confirmed by the clubs. The transaction involves up to $1.2 million in General Allocation Money (GAM) and further stipulates future financial benefits for Houston, contingent on Dorsey's performance. Specifically, Houston receives an initial $1 million in GAM, dispersed over the next two Major League Soccer (MLS) seasons, with a potential extra $200,000 dependent on performance benchmarks.

The agreement also provides Houston with a sell-on percentage for Dorsey, which could yield future returns should Orlando decide to transfer him later. Meanwhile, Dorsey has inked a contract with Orlando through the 2027-28 season, featuring a club option for 2028-29. This acquisition follows the recent departure of one of Orlando's key players to Villarreal CF for a reported $7 million, requiring strategic strengthening of their defensive lineup.

Orlando City's General Manager, Ricardo Moreira, expressed confidence in the signing, praising Dorsey's experience and versatility. "He’s an experienced, proven competitor in this league and fills a key position for us," Moreira stated, alluding to the immediate impact anticipated on Orlando's back line. Griffin Dorsey brings notable credentials from his tenure with Houston, where he posted 15 goals and 18 assists across 161 appearances. Over the past two seasons, the right-back started 60 matches, contributing 5 goals and 10 assists. Dorsey initially entered the MLS after being selected sixth overall in the 2019 SuperDraft by Toronto FC, later transferring to Houston where he became a pivotal figure.
