SRS Distribution Inc. has acquired LS Building Products, a move that strengthens its presence in the wholesale distribution of building materials. This acquisition includes LS Building Products' portfolio of distribution centers and production facilities across central Illinois, enhancing SRS Distribution's reach and capacity in the Midwest.

The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. LS Building Products, founded in 1950 and currently led by Troy Reed, Matt Jaeger, and Dan Schumacher, specializes in a range of building materials including roofing, lumber, siding, windows, doors, and millwork. The company operates four distribution centers and three production facilities, employing 220 staff. The leadership team of Reed, Jaeger, and Schumacher will continue in their roles post-acquisition.

According to Kent Gardner, president of SRS Distribution, the deal fills a strategic gap in its Midwest branch network, bringing significant roofing and siding sales from a market previously untapped by SRS. Gardner noted the two companies' shared values of a people-first approach and high customer service standards as pivotal in the acquisition decision, aligning with SRS’s culture.

For the building materials sector, this acquisition by SRS Distribution marks an ongoing trend of consolidation among distributors aiming to enhance their geographical footprint and operational efficiencies. Competitors will likely observe the synergies resulting from the acquisition as SRS leverages its expanded network to deepen market penetration. This move could prompt similar strategic expansions as companies vie for greater market shares in a fragmented industry.

As LS Building Products integrates into SRS Distribution, both companies will focus on leveraging their combined assets for growth. This includes capitalizing on new market opportunities and sustaining a support-based culture for employees. The acquisition sets the stage for enhanced competitive positioning within the building materials distribution sector.
