Lutheran Homes Group acquires Mildura Gardens
Lutheran Homes Group (LHG) has acquired the Mildura Gardens Retirement Village, marking another step in its strategic expansion across the aged care and retirement village sector. This acquisition enhances LHG's capacity to serve the regional community in northwest Victoria, augmenting its existing presence with new facilities and potential development opportunities.
Mildura Gardens, located in Mildura, includes 87 independent living units, a community centre, and two substantial parcels of land earmarked for future development. Although financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed, the acquisition was facilitated by an Adelaide-based mergers and acquisitions firm. The village will be rebranded as Lutheran Homes Group Mildura, joining LHG's network of communities, which already spans several locations across South Australia and Victoria, including Fullarton, Glynde, Hope Valley, Para Vista, and Horsham.
LHG's Chief Executive Officer Tim Chia noted that the addition reflects the group’s commitment to supporting regional communities while broadening its footprint in Victoria. The Mildura site, with its existing infrastructure and potential for expansion, strengthens LHG’s foundations for continued growth. This purchase follows LHG's recent activities in Victoria, including earlier acquisitions in Horsham and Hamilton, which collectively added 134 aged care beds, 184 independent living units, and 170 staff to its operations as of June 2025.
This acquisition amplifies competitive dynamics in the retirement village and aged care market, particularly in the regions of South Australia and Victoria. As LHG expands, it intensifies competition with other providers in terms of both capacity and geographic presence. The sector is experiencing heightened demand for facilities that cater to an aging population, prompting capital allocations towards scalable operations with potential for future growth.
Looking ahead, LHG's focus on regional expansion presents an opportunity for further acquisitions and development initiatives, particularly leveraging the undeveloped land within the Mildura site. As the group integrates Mildura Gardens into its portfolio, attention will inevitably shift to realizing the latent potential this acquisition presents for both increased accommodation capacity and enhanced community service offerings.
