Chromafora acquires Montrose Environmental Group
Swedish cleantech firm Chromafora has expanded its footprint in PFAS water treatment technologies through the acquisition of Montrose Environmental Group Denmark. The deal for the Danish unit of U.S.-based Montrose Environmental Group, completed on December 31, 2025, enhances Chromafora's ability to offer comprehensive solutions for removing these pervasive contaminants from complex water streams. Financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
The acquisition of Montrose Environmental Group Denmark, now renamed Chromafora Denmark ApS, provides Chromafora with a substantial increase in market coverage and technical know-how. Montrose’s Danish arm specializes in technical solutions aimed at decontaminating water laden with PFAS, possessing proven methods particularly suited to tackling long-chain PFAS issues. This complements Chromafora’s established SELPAXT technology, which targets the removal of ultra-short- and short-chain PFAS. Integration of these complementary technologies is expected to bolster Chromafora's capabilities and accelerate growth, particularly in the Nordic region and Europe.
Johan Seijmer, CEO of Chromafora, emphasized the strategic alignment this acquisition brings, noting enhanced market access and delivery capacity. He stated, "We have strengthened Chromafora with key talent and expertise across multiple water treatment technologies... [which] aligns with our partner strategy and accelerates growth." The addition of the Danish team is anticipated to enhance Chromafora’s operational scope and technical proficiency in addressing complex water treatment challenges.
This acquisition further signifies an expanded collaborative relationship between Chromafora and Montrose, as Montrose now holds a stake as an investor in Chromafora. The deal has also led to a licensing agreement enabling Chromafora to utilize ECT2's proprietary technology, a subsidiary of Montrose, to support its expansion across the European market. Such developments underscore the strategic shift as companies in the sector navigate increased regulatory scrutiny and heightened demand for effective PFAS removal technologies.
Moving forward, Chromafora plans to leverage its expanded resources to cement its position as a leader in PFAS treatment technologies in Europe. As regulatory requirements tighten globally, the combined strengths of Chromafora and its new Danish unit are expected to set a benchmark for innovation and regulatory compliance in water treatment solutions. The transaction paves the way for broader collaborations while enhancing investor confidence in Chromafora’s sustainable technology solutions.
