Blackstone acquires Neysa
Blackstone is taking a significant step in the AI sector by leading a $1.2 billion fundraising round for Neysa, an AI cloud computing platform based in India. This fundraise comprises $600 million in equity, with Blackstone and its co-investors providing the bulk, and an additional $600 million expected through debt financing. The transaction positions Blackstone as the majority stakeholder in Neysa.
Neysa will utilize the capital influx to expand its presence in India's burgeoning AI infrastructure space. A substantial portion of the investment is earmarked for scaling up its GPU capacity from around 1,200 to over 20,000 units in response to heightened demand for "sovereign AI" solutions. This investment aligns with India's ambitions to bolster its domestic AI capabilities, keeping data processing within national borders. Neysa plans to tap into sectors such as finance, research, and government, which are showing a strong interest in private cloud environments.
For Blackstone, this stake in Neysa represents an opportunity to capitalize on the nascent stage of AI infrastructure in India, which it believes could grow significantly. Currently, India houses approximately 50,000–60,000 GPUs, but this number is likely to rise dramatically as AI adoption gains momentum. The firm aims to leverage its extensive resources to offer Neysa enhanced supply-chain capabilities, expand data-center capacities, and improve GPU procurement processes.
The move is indicative of growing global interest in India as a key hub for AI development, spurred by favourable policy measures and an increasing number of international AI labs exploring opportunities in the region. It also highlights a trend where private equity is increasingly shaping AI infrastructure developments in emerging markets.
Going forward, Neysa plans further advancements beyond GPU expansion. It is set to develop its orchestration platform, expand its application marketplace, and enhance security and observability tools for complex GPU deployments. The company is also on a recruitment drive to draw in talent such as engineers and generative AI specialists to support this expansive growth trajectory. Regulatory approvals and the finalization of debt financing will be critical to concluding the transaction and proceeding with these ambitious plans.
