Superhuman acquires Rows
Superhuman, formerly known as Grammarly, has acquired Rows, an AI startup specializing in data and spreadsheet management. The transaction marks Superhuman's ongoing effort to fortify its Coda product by integrating Rows’ technology and expertise into its offerings. Although the financial details of the acquisition have not been disclosed, industry estimates place the deal value between $50 million and $70 million.
Founded in 2017, Rows had secured over $40 million in venture capital. While specific financial performance metrics remain undisclosed, the platform reportedly had hundreds of thousands of users by 2024. Superhuman, which rebranded from Grammarly last year to emphasize its focus on AI productivity solutions, intends for Rows’ team based in Porto, Portugal to integrate into its operations, enhancing Coda’s capacity in data connectivity and real-time analytics.
The strategic motivation behind this acquisition lies in enhancing Superhuman’s capabilities in managing complex data workflows. Rows has spent nine years developing technologies that link spreadsheets with business tools, incorporating AI to streamline data importation, analysis, and sharing. The integration of these tools aligns with Superhuman’s strategy to create AI-native productivity applications. By bringing Rows’ innovations into the Coda platform, Superhuman aims to make sophisticated data analysis more accessible to teams without requiring deep technical expertise.
In the current technology landscape, where software increasingly depends on live data, seamless collaboration and in-depth analytics are becoming indispensable. Rows has proven adept at addressing these challenges with its sophisticated yet user-friendly tools, making the company's technology a significant asset for Superhuman. Strengthening Coda’s capabilities aligns with the broader market trend where productivity and data analysis are converging rapidly, providing businesses with more comprehensive tools for efficient operation.
Looking forward, the standalone Rows product is set to cease operations on May 31. Post-transaction, the focus will shift to embedding Rows’ expertise into the Coda environment. Superhuman’s broader objective remains to unify its suite — including Grammarly, Coda, Mail, and Go — into a cohesive system facilitated by intelligent agents, with Coda as the centerpiece for planning, creation, and execution of projects.
