Seal Shield acquires Vioguard
Seal Shield, a company specializing in hygienic healthcare technology and medical-grade devices, has announced the acquisition of Vioguard, a Washington State-based firm recognized for its ultraviolet C (UV-C) sanitization technologies. This acquisition aims to bolster Seal Shield's portfolio of sanitization solutions to combat healthcare-associated infections.
Vioguard, established in 2008 by a group of former Microsoft employees, developed the first FDA-approved UV-C sanitization system for keyboards. Seal Shield's acquisition of Vioguard will integrate this innovative technology into its existing product lineup. This move is expected to enhance Seal Shield's hygienic solutions, specifically in reducing contamination risks in healthcare settings from shared workstations and devices.
The acquisition also includes Vioguard's intellectual property and technology assets, which are anticipated to augment Seal Shield's broader patent portfolio and support its product development strategy. Research conducted by Dr. Curtis Donskey, alongside Case Western Reserve University and the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, has demonstrated that Vioguard's sanitization system could play a significant role in mitigating the spread of pathogens such as Ebola, influenza strains, and C. difficile.
In the broader healthcare technology market, the acquisition positions Seal Shield advantageously as demand for effective sanitization solutions continues to grow, driven by heightened awareness of infection control in hospitals and clinics. The integration of Vioguard’s technology may set Seal Shield apart from competitors by offering comprehensive sanitization options designed specifically for high-contact surfaces in medical environments.
The Vioguard ultraviolet sanitization system is slated to be showcased at the HIMSS26 tradeshow in Las Vegas from March 10 to 12. This event will allow Seal Shield to present the newly acquired technology alongside its existing offerings, such as the ElectroClave UV clinical device management system and CleanSlate UV rapid sanitization platform.
